An Update On Our Reopening

March 12, 2021

Dear Friends of The Cabot,

Today, March 12, marks the one year anniversary of the last time we were able to welcome our Cabot patrons into our theater. This past year has been filled with a mix of heartbreak, resiliency, awakening, and rebirth. This letter is to bring you up to date with where we’ve been, and where we are going from here.

Monday, March 1 marked the beginning of Massachusetts Phase 3 Step 2 reopening guidelines, meaning movie theaters and indoor performance venues are legally permitted to reopen with expanded, though still limited, capacities.

We see this news as tremendously positive and a stepping stone towards the eventual reopening of our doors to the general public in the next few months.

Our Cabot community continues to help us through this challenging time. We cannot thank you enough for your messages, donations, and participation in our online programming and virtual movie screenings.

We are heartened and inspired by the support we have received. It has allowed us to continue our mission during a time of forced closure, and to take full advantage of that closure by completing important renovations.

Currently, we are focusing our efforts on completing our lobby renovation project and other necessary projects inside the theater to make it more functional, beautiful, and accessible. The lobby project will wrap up in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we have begun work on the restoration of our historic arch as well as other work that requires a complete shutdown of the theater over the next 8 weeks.

As we get to the end of these projects in late Spring, we are hopeful that we can begin to gradually reopen our theater to the public, opening first for movies this summer and then for performing arts this Fall.

In addition to welcoming folks back for films, we are planning another summer outdoor concert series at Hale Farm in collaboration with our friends at Historic Beverly. We will also be fully launching our at-home performing arts and film platform, Cabot To-Go, once construction is complete and we can resume content creation.

Our decision making around the timing of reopening The Cabot will take employee and patron safety into account as our first priority. We want to see you at The Cabot again but will make sure that we are all safe before doing so.

At The Cabot, we believe in the power of arts to educate and change lives, and to build community. We know that the need for community, connection, and conversation will be even greater when we are on the other side of this pandemic. We are getting there, and we can’t wait to welcome you back and to show you what we have done!

Please consider supporting The Cabot until we meet again.

Best wishes,

Your friends at The Cabot
