The Vision

Our mission is to enrich the cultural life of our entire community with a full calendar of quality films, live music, and events.

Plans to resurrect The Cabot began with a small group of longtime North Shore residents who felt it was important to provide stewardship of this historic theater. Our efforts have enjoyed widespread and enthusiastic community support.

Our campaign’s goal is to appreciate what we have, preserve what we can, and thoughtfully innovate to accommodate new audiences.

The Cabot is located in downtown Beverly, MA, in the heart of the newly designated Beverly Arts District.

The Cabot will:

      * Become a vibrant, active, and world-class arts and entertainment destination for the entire North Shore community.

      * Beautifully restore a historic building in the heart of downtown Beverly.

      * Enrich the cultural life of our community, and add to the promotional and marketing appeal of the North Shore.

      * Provide the community with world-class live performances and films over 350+ days per year, in a friendly,
         historic, and collaborative environment.

A NORTH SHORE TREASURE

For nearly a century, The Cabot in Beverly has been a local treasure, a dream palace at the heart of the downtown, and a welcoming gathering place for generations of North Shore residents.

Originally known as The Ware, this opulent neoclassical-style theater was built in 1920 by the renowned architectural firm Funk & Wilcox. Originally used for vaudeville shows and silent movies, it was later owned by the movie chain E.M. Loews.  In 1976, The Cabot was purchased by Le Grand David and his own Spectacular Magic Company, and for the next 36 years was the home of a world-famous magic show.

The Cabot is a rare survivor. Out of the 20,000 movie palaces that entertained America in 1920, the National Trust for Historic Preservation estimates that less than 250 remain.

The Cabot is now being transformed into a 21st century venue for audiences of all ages, with nationally-recognized live performers, current and classic movies, and community events.  Since its reopening in November 2014, The Cabot is once again a vital part of the North Shore’s artistic life.

A PLACE FOR ALL OF US

Those of us who make our homes on the North Shore and Cape Ann share a passion for hard work and a deep appreciation for our area’s history, culture and raw natural beauty. Many people still make their living from the sea, while others work in information and medical technology businesses, law, education and medicine. We’re also fortunate to have some of New England’s most talented craftsmen and a large contingent of artisans.

But all hard work and no play is tedious, so we all want to enjoy our precious free time in places where we can come together to have fun with family and friends, and maybe build new relationships too.

The new Cabot is our place, a local treasure that doesn’t require a drive to The Hub to experience topnotch music and theater. A fun place full of history, charm and architectural grandeur, yet with modern comforts and amenities.

We hope that you will join us in making The Cabot a vibrant and meaningful arts destination, and once again the pride of the North Shore.
